Road to Dunhuang: A Game-Based Chinese Learning Project Begins

GLTOP Club has launched Road to Dunhuang, a game-based Chinese-learning project in partnership with Peking University’s Learning Sciences Laboratory, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and other universities. Combining Dunhuang culture with introductory Chinese, the project serves learners worldwide and supports international Chinese-language education.

Connecting Culture and Education

Centered on Dunhuang culture and introductory Chinese, the project uses interactive, immersive gameplay to help learners explore an ancient civilization while developing language skills and cultural understanding. Historical and cultural content extends beyond conventional language teaching, helping students learn naturally through play.

Academic Collaboration

Participating scholars include Professor Shang Junjie of Peking University’s Learning Sciences Laboratory, Professor Zhu Yun of Shanghai Theatre Academy and Professor Zhang Lu of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. They provide academic support and research guidance, while GLTOP Club contributes game-development and technical expertise throughout the project to connect education and entertainment.

International Potential

Alongside its cultural value, Road to Dunhuang aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative and efforts to share Chinese culture internationally. The project offers a new approach for Chinese learners worldwide while helping introduce Dunhuang culture to broader audiences.

Future Development

GLTOP Club plans to present the project at international competitions and education exhibitions to expand its reach. Outstanding contributors may also be introduced to partner game companies for internship or employment opportunities.

The collaboration reflects GLTOP Club’s work in education, culture and innovation. The club will continue supporting cross-industry and cross-cultural projects that share Chinese language and culture internationally.
